The King's Forest Overview
The King's Forest A vast and very actively managed Forestry Commission coniferous plantation straddling the B1106 between Bury St Edmunds and Thetford and originally mapped nearly 30 years ago in conjunction with CUOC After a long period when access was denied, sections on both sides of the B1106 have now been mapped and the mapped areas are still continuing to grow. The current subdivisions include Wordwell, which is an expanded version of the original King's NE map, plus North & West Stow, both to the west of the B1106 & overlapping the original King's N area.
Currently listed as three maps: |

Wordwell This includes part of the original King's NE map, plus a section to the south first added for an event 2022. As is usual with commercial forest, there are blocks of conifers in various stages of maturity separated by deciduous windbreaks and open rough grassy areas. Scattered within are various depressions resulting from a history of human usage, including sand & marl extraction and wartime preparations. Location: TL 821760 |

West Stow This is the most southerly section of the forest, lying to the west of the B1106 and just to the north of Lackford Lakes and West Stow Country Park. Previously known as King's South, the area has not been used for an event for some time, but will see action again during the "Autumn in Anglia" weekend in 2023. Location: TL 821760 |

North Stow This is the north-western section of the forest and overlaps with the area previously listed as King's North. The latter was last used for an event in 2016. Location: TL 821760 |
