Suffolk Orienteering Club (SUFFOC) was founded in 1972, when it staged its first event in Rendlesham Forest. The membership is drawn primarily from Suffolk though we are forgiving and sympathetic to those who live across the County Boundary. If you want to join us you are welcome - residency is no barrier to membership.

Each year SUFFOC puts on three or four events as part of a fuller East Anglian events programme, rotating around the various areas of the county that are available. At each event there are a variety of courses of differing length and degree of technical and physical difficulty to suit all ages and abilities. We also hold the Annual Club Championships at an event at one of our neighbours, the winner of which is presented the Suffolk Punch Bowl.

The club helped found a 'Schools League' for juniors in conjunction with the East Essex Club (Stragglers Orienteering Society -SOS). Full details of the current School league fixtures ( ESSOL) can be retrieved from the SOS web site

In addition to competing at East Anglian fixtures club members who yearn for 'contours' travel far and wide to take part in National and International events, including the British Championships and the JK trophy which is run every Easter. Club members also take part in associated events such as the Rodings Rally, an all night team event in Epping Forest which SUFFOC have often won. Some of our fitter members also take part in the Karrimor Mountain Marathon.

Rendlesham Forest has changed significantly over the years as indeed have the founding members! By way of a challenge the inaugural event was re-enacted 25 years later on the original map (see below) - quite a shock to those more used to today's high precision computer generated cartography! (Thankfully an updated map was used for our Badge Event on 13 Jan 2002).
