Thank you all for coming out today in the amazingly hot weather. It was great to see so many trying Orienteering for the first time and hope to see you at another event in the near future. The white, yellow and orange participants' reactions at the end showed the courses provided a satisfactory and enjoyable challenge.
It is very different planning events in Bridge Wood in May than it is in our usual time of September. Large tracts of the wood are virtually no go areas due to the wonderful carpet of bluebells. This meant that we had to look at other ways of producing a light green for the area. Before, we have basically gone round Bridge Wood twice utlilising all the space available. I decided, therefore, to use part of the 1:10000 map of Orwell Country Park and go into areas not used before for Orienteering. Admittedly these provided long path runs but the views of the River are a good recompense. Apologies for those who found point 155 missing. This was removed by the farmer as the red and white kite was upsetting the bull in the neighbouring field. I was able to replace the point without a flag to appease the farmer (and the bull!!) |
