Club News

  • Our series of Ipswich-O 2022 events is starting soon. These events, sponsored by Sport England, are designed for families, juniors, beginners & improvers - anyone, in fact, who enjoys exploring in the outdoors! At each event there'll be 3 courses to choose from and we'll help you understand the detailed map and how to use the timing system. Once you've completed your course you'll have your achievement listed in an Ipswich-O Passport - & that will give you free entry into our Simon Peck Summer Series events so you can practise your skills!

You can find details of the first event, in Christchurch Park, here.

Our series of MapRun Challenges is ongoing. These informal 60 minute score courses are tracked and timed using your Android or iPhone GPS & the MapRun6 app - and, if we start at roughly the same time, provide a chance to meet up for a chat & refreshments afterwards. All are welcome - the next one is in the Ravenswood area of Ipswich and the details are here.

  • SuffOC was well-represented at the British Long Distance & Relay Championships on March 26 & 27th. The events took place in tough heathland & woodland areas near Liphook in Surrey - and our team came third in the Junior Ad Hoc class! Our congratulations to Ben, James & Theo on their podium place, & to all the others who took part on various courses over the two events.

  • Our Club Championships were able to take place in 2021, unlike 2020, and this time the winner was Martin Hore, followed by Sally Wilkinson and Olivia Radcliffe in second and third place respectively. Our Chairman, Simon, duly presented the trophy, the Punchbowl, at our West Harling event last weekend.

The competition was held at NOR's Lynford event in December. The Club Champs results can be seen here & the overall results from the NOR webpage.

  • Our next online training session for members will be at 19:30 on Monday 7th February.  It will follow a similar format to previous sessions, i.e. part coaching and chat, part discussion of events coming up in the next couple of months.   The coaching will focus on the follow-up to an event, while the events section is likely to cover the CompassSport qualifier at Mildenhall North and the British Middle Distance Championships (to be held in "EAOA country" at Rushmere).

Please let Clive know if you wish to join us for the session so that he can send you the Zoom link.

  • The training session in Bridge Wood (Orwell Country Park) which had to be postponed because of the weather forecast and potential road closures before Xmas has been rescheduled for Saturday 29th January - see the events section, but all queries/registrations to Clive, please.

The Zoom meeting on preparing MapRun courses is on Wednesday 5th January at 7pm. All welcome, especially members who haven't dared to dip their toes into the "planning" area yet! Please email Sarah for the link to join the meeting.
