We've now established permissions for our Simon Peck Summer Series & we also have a new venture, a series of Social MapRuns, as informal meets, open to all.
The SPSS events will have the normal format, i.e. a choice from 3 or 4 linear courses with SI timing, while the Social MapRuns will be score courses using GPS tracking. The Social MapRuns are unashamedly based on the successful format used by local running clubs - meet near a pub, run, return to said pub for refreshment and chat. Orienteers will undoubtedly also include a post-run discussion of route choices and will be only too happy to debrief newcomers!
The Social MapRuns will each involve a 60 minute "Street-O" score course where you will need to use the MapRun6 (or its predecessor, MapRunF) app on your smartphone. In addition, carrying a printed map is an option which makes route planning easier - and is a necessity if you run with the MapRunG app on your Garmin sports watch.
The Social MapRuns planned so far are:
If you haven't used the MapRun app before you can find details on our MapRun pages. All will be welcome, whatever their level of experience, so please encourage your friends to have a go!
