This course is based in Chantry Park in Ipswich & includes areas of parkland & woodland. You'll be navigating using a new 1:5000 "proper" orienteering map of the park as the simpler maps we use for Street-O MapRuns aren't detailed enough for this area. It'd be an idea to check that you know the colours used for the different areas - you'll find a useful chart here. Parking is in the small carpark accessed from Hadleigh Road, via the Sue Ryder entrance, & the marked Start/Finish point is alongside the adjacent children's playground. The course is timed - you'll receive points for each control you visit (& some controls are worth more than others), but have them deducted if you're over the time allowed!
The whole course is almost completely off-road; in terms of safety, the main points to watch out for will be crossing the access road for the car park, the various ponds, trip hazards on uneven paths, & undergrowth such as nettles. The latter can be mostly avoided with care, but you may prefer to cover your legs fully to gain speed!
Please note - this course was first used for the MapRun Challenge on 16th August 2022, & it will remain available for you to try in your own time if you were unable to join us on the evening of the Challenge.
