SUFFOC have won the 2024 East Anglian League club award, having beaten WAOC by a whisker. The winners banner was handed over from HAVOC at Kings Forest this weekend.
Congratulations also to Theo Steventon Barnes (M18), Emily Vallow (W21) and Sally Wilinson (W60) who won the East Anglian League club awards for their age class.
The full results table for 2024 and provisional fixtures for the 2025 league can be found on the East Anglian Orienteering Association website here.
Well done to Sally who scored a perfect 500 to beat Clive to the top of the league by only 5 points and to Ethan who also scored a perfect 500 in the Juniors league to beat Theo by only 19 points. A very close competition last year indeed.
Calling all SUFFOC juniors. There is a newly formed East Anglian Schools Orienteering League (EASOL) that you can be part of. EASOL events are open to all young people of school age in the catchment areas of SOS, SUFFOC, WAOC, HAVOC, NOR and SMOC clubs. You don’t need your school to be involved in orienteering; you just need to make sure when you enter any of the eligible events that you add your school name, the year group you are in and enter the correct course for your year group. You will earn points based on your time and course difficulty, with trophies awarded to the highest-scoring boy and girl per year group class as well as team prizes to be won!
Over the last few years, the Club has been working with schools to introduce orienteering to pupils, often through the School Sports Organisers who work with a collection of schools in an area. This has included a range of support mechanisms from after-school and online training sessions for teachers, teaching the basic skills and sharing simple activities that can be undertaken on the grounds, to direct sessions with classes. Some schools have been able to have their grounds mapped, and many of the area groupings now have sets of controls and cones to enable them to run training sessions and competitions.
