John Webb Remembered

We have just learnt that John Webb passed away in the early hours of the 20th of September and our thoughts are with his wife June and their family at this sad time.

John and June were part of the founding team for Suffolk Orienteering Club in 1972 and have probably undertaken every possible role within the Club. John introduced countless people to the pleasure of the countryside with orienteering just being one of the sports and activities he took part in. He was always ready to help and share his expertise. He continued to be active at orienteering events into his last few years with June supporting him as sadly his mind became the limiting factor to competing on his own.

We marked their long association with the Club by presenting the couple with a large jigsaw of the map of Ickworth just as orienteering was re-starting after Covid so even when getting outside was a struggle, orienteering could be on the agenda.

If any members have reflections about John’s life, do send them to me and we can collate them and share them with June and the Club.

A man who will be sadly missed.
