Clare is a small market town in the Upper Stour Valley and lies between Haverhill and Sudbury. The town provides an interesting setting for small-scale urban events: Junior courses can be set entirely within Clare Castle Country Park and the grounds of the adjacent Augustinian Priory, while Senior courses can also explore the mediaeval town centre and the earthworks on the ancient common together with the network of modern estates.
The Clare Castle Country Park has the distinction of containing the remains of a Norman motte and bailey castle - with a now-disused railway station built into the bailey! The original booking hall has been converted into the popular Platform 1 Café
