Club News

  • There was a sizeable contingent from SuffOC at the Compass Sport Trophy area heat on the Ashridge Estate in the Chilterns last weekend. At the end of the event it appeared that SuffOC had won the heat, but then came the announcement that there were some anomalies so the scores needed to be rechecked. After a nail-biting week the results have now been finalised and yes, SuffOC really did win against the 8 other clubs: together with SAX we have qualified for the final. Congratulations, everyone, we now have a fantastic opportunity to participate in the Level A final in October!

The final will be held on Sunday 22nd October at Virtuous Lady (named after a disused mine), near Yelverton. Devon Orienteering has already set up a webpage with a link to the map and the list of qualifying clubs for both the Trophy and the Cup can be found here.

  • The woodland is looking good for our team entry in the Compass Sport area heat on Sunday 12th March. The Final Details can be found here.

  • Just a reminder that the presentation of the mementos to the 2016 EA League age class winners will take place at SOS's Writtle event on April 2nd, at approx. 13:30 & the 2017 EAOA Championships will be held at SMOC's Rushmere event on March 19th.

  • Our next coaching session will take place at Rowney Warren on 25th February. The course will focus on improving your ability to visualise the landscape from the mapped contours - something which many members have requested!

  • We were saddened to learn that Wesley Musall passed away last Saturday. Wes was a keen outdoor enthusiast, participating in climbing, mountain biking and long-distance events in addition to orienteering. He will be remembered for his support for our club as a competitor, a determined team member and as a volunteer at our events. We would like to express our condolences to his family and friends.
